Started with one client and a beat-up vacuum
Golden Rule opened its doors in Springfield, Illinois in 2011. The plan was simple — clean homes the way our own mothers would want them cleaned, and treat every customer the way we’d want to be treated. The Golden Rule.
Fifteen years later we serve homes and businesses across the St. Charles and greater St. Louis Metro area, plus our original Central Illinois territory. We’ve grown into commercial cleaning, move-in/move-out work, and even a handyman division — but the rule that started it all hasn’t changed.
We’re still locally owned, still family-run, and still answering our own phones. (Well — mostly. Meet Iris below.)
The people behind Golden Rule
Sarah Hughton
Sarah started Golden Rule in 2011 with one client and a vacuum cleaner. Today the company serves homes and businesses across the St. Charles and greater St. Louis Metro area, plus our original Central Illinois territory.
She’s the operator — the one building the systems behind the scenes so the schedule runs, the supplies are stocked, and the standards stay high. If something has gotten better at Golden Rule, there’s a good chance Sarah’s the one who built the system that made it better.
She also coaches other cleaning-business owners through her separate brand, Mop to Mogul — helping other small-business owners turn their hustle into a real company.
Mom to her son Dru — her favorite teammate of all.
Jason Meister
Jason runs payroll and accounts receivable. If your crew got paid on time and your invoice arrived without a hiccup, that was Jason — the steady hand keeping the money side of the company running so everyone else can focus on the work.
Megan Whitlow
Megan is the voice you’ll most likely hear when you call. She runs the office — scheduling, hiring, customer requests, and the day-to-day chaos that keeps a cleaning company on the rails. If something needs to get done in the office, Megan’s already three steps ahead.
